what's a good oldie Sim City game to start out with? Or would one of the newer ones be better?

I still love SimCity 4 and play it quite a bit. I even just re-bought it during one of the steam sales for $5 so I didn't have to worry about losing the CDs.

There is still a huge SC4 community and a ton of mods and user created updates that make the game much better than EA did. It's a little bit different than the previous versions though (with region play), so if you are looking for more of the old-school simcity, SimCity 3000 might be more your style.

I think I might be passing on SC2013. I'll wait for the community response to it, but I really think this is going to be another flop like Sim City Societies was. I really hope not, but there are just too many large issues that I have with it.

I'll probably wait a week or two before I buy this. I'll see what the people say, and I'll wait for the issues to start popping up.

I am in no rush to put my money in EA's pocket.

the biggest gripe is map size, but the game is insane fun.

I know, I did the beta. I just don't do pre-orders anymore unless its from a company like Rockstar. I've gotten burned many times pre-ordering things that turned out to be crap.

I am just going to fold my arms and see what happens with this release. EA claims they are already planning micotransactions for this game (all of their games, actually).

Yeah, I bet this becomes like a farmville on steroids. All of the tell-tale signs of this are already in place - very small map sizes, required online collaboration with neighboring cities, specialized city "roles" and microtransactions.

If they back out of their promise early on to provide a building architect tool like they have for all of the previous SC's, I don't think many people will stick around for long. Custom content is the main reason that SC4 is still alive.
