Florida Senator Bill Nelson:

"Nelson, who is locked in a tough Senate reelection campaign against Florida’s Republican Gov. Rick Scott, told the newspaper that the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee had told him to warn the election supervisors in Florida that the “Russians are in their records,” the Times reported."

"Nelson told reporters Wednesday that Russian attempts to meddle in the 2018 midterms likely include an effort to falsify voter registration rolls. "

I am certain the fatty cheeto-in-charge will say that its fake news.

Nelson is sowing the seeds early. He has no backing for his claims at this time. No DHS, no FBI, nobody. I'm looking forward to putting this old dinosaur out to pasture and only wish I could have the opportunity to do the same for Rubio.

The Florida Department of State said it had received "zero information" from Nelson or his staff that supports the claims of Russian meddling — something national intelligence and homeland security officials have repeatedly warned was likely ahead of the midterms.

"Additionally, the department has received no information from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that corroborates Sen. Nelson's statement and we have no evidence to support these claims," the Florida Department of State said in a statement. "If Sen. Nelson has specific information about threats to our elections, he should share it with election officials in Florida."

Well, I don't know about fake news, but they sent the letter July 2 and yet the FL dept of State knows nothing about any infiltration. Not Nelson, Rubio, nor the Senate Intelligence Committee have sent them anything about it.

“Additionally, the department has received no information from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that corroborates Sen. Nelson’s statement and we have no evidence to support these claims,” the Florida Department of State said in a statement. “If Sen. Nelson has specific information about threats to our elections, he should share it with election officials in Florida.”

“We were requested by the chairman and vice chairman of our intelligence committee to let the supervisors of election in Florida that the Russians are in their records,” Nelson said, adding that the letter also urged the county officials to seek help from the Homeland Security Department.

But the Department of Homeland Security said "“While we are aware of Senator Nelson’s recent statements, we have not seen any new compromises by Russian actors of election infrastructure."

Nelson said that he couldn't say which counties were compromised as that was classified. You'd think it wouldn't be so classified that it couldn't be shared with Homeland Security or FL Dept of State, but who knows?

I'm sure if Nelson made up this claim the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee would refute. Considering how much Russia has penetrated us to date more plausible then not.

Could very well be. If the Florida Senate Intelligence Committee has this information, members are playing things so close to the vest that they aren't sharing what they know with the Florida Dept of State (which oversees the elections), the FL Dept of Law Enforcement, the FBI and Homeland Security, or they have shared and all those other entities are keeping silent. I do live in FL, but none of those FL groups keep me in the loop.

Admittedly evidence is sparse in this episode. I do find it odd that immediately after Trump says “Russia is helping the Democrats” voter registration logs get targeted.
Almost like Russia is listening and directing efforts to drop some Republicans from the logs so a newly elected Democrat will be called a false candidate and have no authority.

Dangerous times guys, I wish more people would take this shit seriously.

Yep. We have to learn the lesson of 2016.

Don't declare anything absolute in regards to security and remain vigilant.

I think the info is legit and was not to be released yet because they are still investigating but Nelson announced it to get political points over Scott. Nelson is afraid Scott is going to take his seat

While I'm not convinced the Russians have hacked into our election systems, there is no doubt that they have used, and are still using, thousands upon thousands of fake social media accounts to engage in a form of psychological warfare intent on influencing our political discourse, and dividing America politically.

And don't forget that Russians also hacked the RNC, but are just sitting on those emails until the GOP does anything really out of line with their agenda.

And somehow I can imagine that RNC people speaking privately are somehow even less honorable than their public personas.

I don’t think they gained access to the RNC, they just half heartedly tried from what I understand

It has already been proven Russia hacked into state elections systems and stole hundreds of thousands of voter records.

To my understanding 100s of thousands were exposed but a few thousand were accessed. Still serious stuff maybe a security guy could explain what exposed vs accessed means in this context.

Maybe they have another letter in the works. Something along the lines of

Hello to all you Florida counties. We in your Intelligence Committee wanted all of you to know that we possess information that several of your voter databases have been infiltrated by the Russians who are busy, as we speak, deleting voters and altering voter rolls. Which counties, you ask? Well, here's the fun part. Although we've known for many weeks about this, and we know you all have elections this month and could certainly use this information to try to avoid negative repercussions, we've decided not to tell you who has been affected. Maybe someday we'll let you in on the secret, if and when we finish investigating and feel like it. Until then you'll just have to suck it up, buttercup.

Didn't we go through this in 2016? Nelson is informed of the hack and the rest of Republicans stay silent. His opponent Gov Ric Scott is treating Nelson like he is crazy.

Again the Chairman of the SIC is a Republican. If he didn't tell that to Nelson he would say so.

Guess Rubio's in on Nelson's scam too:
“Russian activities continue to pose a threat to the security of our elections, as Senators Nelson and [Marco] Rubio rightly pointed out in their letter. As Vice Chair of SSCI, I hope all state and local elections officials, including Florida’s, will take this issue seriously,” said Warner.

Rubio, a Florida Republican who serves on the Intelligence Committee, had led letters with Nelson to the secretary of state and 67 supervisors of elections encouraging coordination with the Department of Homeland Security in securing the election infrastructure.
Until he wasn't...
Reached Thursday morning, Rubio’s office also declined to offer comment on the specific comment made Wednesday by Nelson about a request from Burr and Warner to advise state and local officials of the election security threat.
