Not that I am a giant conspiracy theorist or anything, but as is the case with most of us here we've all built computers from scratch right? I can't possible be the only one who's looked at the manufacturer date that is stamped on the top of every processor. Most recent example my Core I-7 2600k that I built earlier this year was manufactured 2 years ago.....
The stuff that is released to us as "Cutting Edge" is years old. Intel creates for the US gov't first and for the rest of us second. When we discuss quantum wells or 11nm technology we are merely speculating what scraps they will throw off their table to us. Take cell technology for example. CDMA technology which is what carriers like Sprint use today was around and in use during WWII. When they got something better they discarded it and it was then commercialized.
Let us dispel the question of "can they do it," and replace it with "What outdated technology will they allow us to use next."

Delaying CPU launches and delaying process nodes are two very different things. If Intel says that they will deliver 11nm in 2015, then they probably already have working silicon (just at very low yields).

Intel doesn't display cardboard CPUs to audiences worldwide and advise their are 'very close to release'

I agree 100% with your statement. I would love to learn more about their process in making these 11nm wafers. Definitely interesting.

You cannot use the word 'faster'. It confuses people and makes then think it IS faster.

Please use phrases like '50% more throughput' or 'UP TO 20% faster'. Those are better...

I work with ones of these types. I tend to get sucked onto his rabbit trails and about 25% of the time I can shut the conspiracy down due to misunderstanding of, or not having all the facts. When I succeed at this, he immediately changes subjects onto something related but will not actually go back and re-evaluate his original hypothesis. It's like the scientific method was lost on him. He's not an engineer but he is a decent code writer so I don't understand how that thinking process doesn't come back to bite him...
I've given up. I think the best way to win is to smile and not play at all...

Well I give ya credit for not jumping all over the bare. My grandson was watching the movie on his computer threw netflex. Yea.

A BIG part of time it takes to release a CPU is validation, making sure the CPU works. For server chips, its the only reason they take longer to release. Xeon DP chips take 6-12 months longer than PC chips, and Xeon MP chips take 18 months later.

They don't delay it to make you rage, but to make sure to reduce the chance you will because you are unlucky enough get a bad one.

The node-candence timing seems just a bit off.

22nm will come out 1H 2012.

Intel has mostly stuck with a 2.1-2.2 yr/node cadence.

So we should not be expecting 14nm until mid-2014.

And 11nm would not be expected until 2H 2016.

2015 is right in terms of a fab point of view, because that's when production needs to start. Speaking of node-cadence, they've been pretty much on 2 year target for most generations:
