Here come 64 bit computing!!

Are there any motherboards that allow more than 8 gigs of ram yet since 64 bit computing allows for much more ram, if there is how much cause I'd like to buy one ?

Sure, all but two of Tyan's opteron boards support more than 8GB ram. http://www.tyan.com/products/html/opteron.html
Be prepared to shell out though, they arent cheap and require registered dimms.

8GB's of ram, go ahead purchase all of that ram and the expensive motherboard you will learn your lesson the hard way..

Sorry to come off of as an ass, but I see to many threads like this. My advice is to do some reading you will learn a lot by spending a little.

Well I do do alot of rendering and 3d modeling, I'm going to school for it when the school year begins, and everyone even teachers are telling me I'm going to need ALOT of ram.

Have a look at how much those 2-gigabyte registered DIMMs cost, and you'll quickly figure that your student's budget clearly tells you that you don't actually need THIS much memory. (You don't even need to know what "registered" means to do this.)

Like frx218 said, you would do yourself some good by learning why you need 8Gb of ram and what the differences are between registered and non-registered. Google and the search button is your friend.

Registered Ram provides a higher level of stability and security, and is generally required on server and workstation boards, and it is more expenesive than regular "unbuffered" ram.

DIMM = Ram

Rendering workstations are normally multi processor systems and can be very expensive. It would be pretty easy to spend $5000-$10,000 on a top of the line graphics workstation.

Asus just entered the workstation board market in the last couple of months with the K8N-DL, and its the cheapest board of its kind (around $300, as opposed to the TYAN boards at $500+) This might be a good starter board for you.

As others have said, do your research and work with your instructors to determine exactly what you need.

MSI has had a workstation mobo for a while that (last I saw) was around $230. Unfortunately now I can't find it on Newegg or Monarch. Tyan has one for $260.

Teachers get little dinky PCs w/ 256 ram for school use. So 1 gig would be a lot to them cuz they're not used to having that much power.
