It's one of the top most beautiful states in the country in regards to natural beauty destinations. Top three. Without a doubt.

I don't think that's what the majority of survey respondents are out there being happy about, a big chunk of that are brainwashed Mormons. While I'm sure there are some folks there living just for the natural access and outside of the Mormon cult and quite happy, I don't think those folks are the foundation of this happiness survey.

I have been told Utah is a bit of a two tier state, same as where I grew up.

People are either part of the original families, or not. The original "tribe" controls the government, etc and just gets away with things, different set of rules, gets the contracts, gets the loans, gets zoning rules waved, etc.

The church is just another layer on top of that, doubling down on it.

I think you answer the second quote with the first. The whole idea of ranking states by stress is probably most about stimulating the same kind of emotions that create happiness in the first place. Give me some state I don't live in to feel better about myself by having some other place to look down on. The economy is built on catering to all of the fears, needs, and weaknesses we experience living with unconscious self hate. Self dissatisfaction is the origin of unhappiness and the stress it creates. It produces a self defeating attitude.

The way out, of course, is enlightenment, the realization that thought and imagination create the mental landscape we call reality and that buying into that as reality is all that mental illness really is. Denial of this inner truth is done to shield us from pain but the result is the numbness of depression and hopelessness. A festering wound in the soul won't heal unless it receives the light of conscious awareness. To heal is to feel. Our culture is by motivation unaware of these facts. Miserable people do not want truth expressed as they are themselves unwilling to embrace it and are filled with contempt at the idea that somebody else might get free. Misery loves company.

West Virginia is methhead central....it does not have to be necessarily diverse for there to be stress, but it is significantly one of the reasons why.

NY and FL may not be stressed while being diverse because those states are attractive tourist places and there are a lot of self-segregation there.

NYC is the most diverse----AND segregated city in America. Racist anti-Black Italians like the Gottis live in Howard Beach, Queens, and on the other side is heavily Black East New York, Brooklyn.

Same thing with Florida----people self-segregate despite the tremendous diversity.

So it couldn't possibly be that your thesis is flat out wrong? Everywhere I've ever been in NYC or central to south Florida is far more diverse than where I've been in any of those states on the list, except Atlanta.
