Does anyone know where I can find a good place to buy the Hercules XP game theater, the cheapest I found was from Micropc for $130. Is it better than lets say the SB AUDIGY Platinum or the HERC Fortissimo II.

Hope to hear any info, advice.

Thanks:)

try newegg.com they had it for like $112 or something. I think it's a lot better than the fortissimo but i don't know really how it compares to the audigy platinum. that's up to you. i like having the box outside of the computer. but the audigy does come with a controller i think.

My brother has a Hercules Game Theater XP with the breakout box, and my friend just bought a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum EX with the external breakout box for his new computer. Both cards sound great, but the Audigy has more connectivity options, a remote control, IEEE1394 firewire port, and 24 bit hardware audio codec, plus a very extensive software bundle for music and audio creation. On the other hand, the Audigy is the better part of $250 versus probably less than half for the GTXP.

Personally, price no object I'd get the Audigy Platinum EX, but I'm not sure if someone really needs its capabilities. The Game Theater XP is a great card, and I have no qualms recommending it over the Audigy. Low CPU usage, 4 USB ports, optical and coax digital in/out, it's good enough for now...

you can get this OEM from newegg for 94.00
link
the only reason i'd get the audigy over the gtxp is if you realy need the few connectors it has that the gt doesn't but if you did need those you wouldn't be comparing them you'd just get the audigy. every now and then newegg will have a refurb for $74 so if you don't mind refurb thats a realy good deal. and if you don't need all the ports and junk on the gtxp the fortissimo2 from herc is a great card for the money.

Yeah I saw the SB Audigy, however I really don't need all those outputs, I only want the optical feature the headphone microphone and a good sound. All that remote control stuff is not necessary for me. Firewire would be a nice feature for Camcorders. Has anyone had problems with the XP using WIN2K:)

Having used both, I can't tell any difference in sound quality. The reviews that are floating around pretty much have both cards neck and neck.

Works fine with W2K and XP as long as you are using the latest drivers from their website.

If you're interested in a slightly used but excellent condition Hercules GTXP, I have one for sale. It's in the original box, and includes all hardware, manuals, cables, and software and is available for a great price. Send me a message.
