I have a problem with my Hercules Geforce2 Pro and Abit KT7-RAID. I bought these components a few days ago and put them together. When I booted up there was no video signal coming from the card. I replaced the card with a Matrox G400 MAX and it worked perfectly. I have heard that Hercules cards need more power and that the AGP slot of the ABit board is not providing enough power so the video does not appear on the screen. The fan of the Hercules card does operate when my machine is on. Please, if anyone knows anything about this issue post a response.

When you try to boot with your GF card, do you get a "beep" code from your system speaker?

I hear a long beep then two shorter beeps for a total of three. When I install the Matrox G400 Max there are no beeps of any sort. But when I boot up any time, I get a CPU error saying that I must reconfig it in the bios and whenever I do that the computer completely hangs and i need to discharge the cmos and the cycle comtinues.

Earlier revisions of the Hercules 3D Prophet 2 are incompatible with the KT7. You need to contact Hercules technical support, who should arrange to exchnage yours for a modified replacement. See the KT7 FAQ for more information on this problem.

You could try replacing the Geforce board with a different brand, but be warned that the KT7 has compatability problems with other brands of Geforce 2 boards (although Hercules is the brand which gets picked on most). Among the latest generation of Athlon motherboards, this problem seems to be restricted to the Abit KT7 family only.

I just put a visionTek geforce2 GTS card in my abit kt7a-raid and I am having the same problem - no monitor signal. When I swapped in my Hercules Prophet geforce1 card, everything worked fine.

From what I've read this seems to be an Abit problem and that they offer some kind of modification if you send your board back. Has anybody done this?

You might be able to get a GF2 working in a KT7 if you increase the I/O voltage in softmenu 3.

My 1st KT7 wouldn't work at all with my GF2 - I had it replaced. the 2nd was better but wouldn't boot reliably until I increased I/O voltage to 3.5 V. It's not an ideal solution, but then from what I've heard from other people, the Abit KT7 isn't an ideal board.
