Hercules Game Theater XP problems?

(Taken from a review)

Unlike Philips Acoustic Edge and Creative?s Sound Blaster Live 5.1, the Game Theater XP does not offer a six-channel gaming mode for games that support 3D audio. Unlike the Santa Cruz and SonicFury it also does not offer a virtual 5.1 mode. The end result is that no sound will be sent to the center or subwoofer channel when playing games.

That sounds BAD !!! Has anyone been able to confirm this? If you have a system with 5.1 speakers, do you really have no sound from the Sub and Center speaker in games? What if I use an Home Theater system, will I still have the same problem?

Please respond, I still have time to return it to the store...

By the way i always use headphones when playing games just soooooo much better considering my sterio is diagonal to me !

The next Creative product is very cool. So if you are looking to get a sound card wait a couple months for Creative's next product.

Dreadogg,

Your stereo system.. Does it have 5 speakers and a Subwoofer? Because that's when you'd have a problem. Or is it a regular stereo system (like 2 speakers)?

nope but the card does output 5.1 dolby digital thought that it supported 7.1 to but really not sure so I would figure that it must work but im really not sure I will be watching this post because there sure has to be someone out there that knows plus if its just in some games it could be a driver issue !

VBboy, yup, your worries are right on. That's my one big complaint of the GTXP. I can't get 5.1 sound in anything other than PowerDVD. Actually, if you leave the GTXP sound mixer set to 6 speaker mode and play a game or listen to music, you don't get anything but 2 channel sound. Basically, to get some type of surround sound in games, you have to set your sound mixer to 4 speaker mode. You get 5.1 surround sound with any compliant 5.1 compatable software DVD player and setting your sound mixer to 6 speaker mode.

But there is never a virtual surround sound mode (which I miss on my SB Live! cards that I used to own).

I was going to get a Game theater, but some people have been having problems lately. Should I get a Live 5.1 instead?

Creative will come out with a product in few months. New design, etc. Better Win2k & XP support (wdm).

BrotherRaven, we saw that in your first post. Don't forget that the next product from Crative will also sport wonderful 'features' to dissallow us from playing/recording copyrighted works.

I guess I will buy a Phillips Acoustic Edge.. Supports 3d APIs and 5.1 speaker mode in anything. I knew something had to be wrong with the Hercules G-Theater XP ;)

Great, so Creative will just forget about people with the old Live cards and problems in W2K huh? Oh we don't want to fix the problem for free but if you buy this it'll work like it's advertised.
