Hi All, I have just reinstalled my entire system after a hard drive crash. All went well except for my sound card installation. Hercules Game Theater XP, Win 2K detects it, asks for the drivers, I direct it to the original CD ROM that was supplied with the card, Win 2K goes through the installation procedure then finishes with the error message that data is invalid etc. I know there is a fix and I think I used it when I originally installed the card but alas the old brain is getting soggy. I know that it is something to do with the Crystal Sound Drivers. Please help, I'm going insane.
Operating System.
AMD2100 +
A7V333 MB
512 meg Ram
GeForce 4 Vid
Win 2K

Thanks in anticipation.

Try the registry cleaner utility for crystal based soundcards .

This little utility will allow Win 2K/ XP user to make sure their registry is cleaned if they have trouble installing their new drivers.
It is provided as a tool and is NOT guaranteed to work for every cases.

The file can also be found in your drivers folder:
(C:/Program files/hercules/audio/Crystal Sound cards/Utility).

INSTRUCTIONS

- Run the program
- At the end, we will be asked to manually reboot your computer.
- If you are running WINDOWS XP, make sure your network cable is physically disconnected from the computer and remains so until drivers are fully installed before rebooting. This is to prevent Windows Update from simultaneously upgrading your drivers.
- Launch the installation package (Files will be copied to C:/Program files/hercules audio/Crystal Sound cards)
- Follow the instructions.

Link ,once done I would also download latest drivers from the same site.

Btw welcome to the AT forums.

Success!!!!! I tried all the tips that you guys gave me with no success though plenty of frustration. I was about to shut down the system with a 12 gauge shotgun when I decided to re-install Win 2K over the previous installation. It worked!! I don't know why. Patience, persistance and a little bit of petroleum jelly, and you can have sex with a spider.

I'm stumped.

With this card it's always best to cancel out of the initial Win2k detection and just run the latest available driver installer from Hercules later on. Rarely would I use Windows detection to install anything. And yes, I've been running the GTXP on Win2k since they first had some weird beta beta drivers without an installer - never had a problem.
