I've installed a hercules Fortissimo 2 sound card in my sisters machine, it is a very nice soundcard for the price, but, the MP3 Acceleration feature is causing problems in games such as NOLF.

How do you disable it? I've installed the 1.02 drivers from hercules website. (It would nice if Hercules could manage to include XP drivers in the box instead of forcing you to download them...)

The soundtrack does not play correctly in the menus and not at all in game (NOLF).

Also running Ultima Ascension forces the speaker configuration to "Monitor Stand desktop Speakers" no matter what config you set in the game (can set headphones, mono, quad, stereo, surround). I haven't seen this sort of behaviour out of ascension before. (Is there a way to "lock" your speaker choice in - it should be set and forget, not changeable except by user IMO).

Okay, Im not disputing the MP3 Acceleration part anymore.

How do I make it work properly with NOLF?

Why does it change the speakers from what I set them to in Ultima Ascension?
