I am going to get a new comp (Athalon 1k, 512 ram, 30gb) and was wondering how good the Hercules 3D Prophet II MX, 32MB card is. Right now I have a 16mb STB right now and think it is a decent card. I like to game but it is not the only thing the computer will be used for, as I will be doing graphic work.

Thanks

It's a very nice card for the money. I liked it well enough that I bought another for the secondary system.

I don't recall the exact core/mem speeds offhand (not at home at the moment) but it is faster than most other MX's out there.

I don't understand why everyone is making such a fuss over image quality with the GeForce2 family - admittedly I only use 17" monitors not 19" and higher, but the onscreen image is beautiful - better than the quality of my old GeForce SDR (Leadtek). (I have seen Voodoo3 on a monitor identical to mine also, and I don't see any difference in quality over nVidia cards in fact in a lot of 3d games the pixels act almost like you are holding a sieve between you and the screen and moving it around.)

Unless you have a definite need for twinview or tv out, this is the MX to get in my opinion - it's approx $20.00 australian more expensive than other MX boards - but the quality and speed is there to compensate.

Seasons greetings
