Hi all
I am running into this big problem here. Should I get the PlayStation 2 or build a new system with T-Bird 800/ Asus VIA KT133, 128 Mushkin PC133, CL X-gamer, Current geforce1 DDR or GTS2 DDR, Current Maxtor 7200 20G HD. The new system would cost me $500 because i already have some of the parts. The PS2 is $300. The thing is I can still run the games i play right now really well, games like D2, AoE2, CS also very litle Q3 and UT. Should I build a new system now or just wait until when a "great" game comes out then upgrade??? God I just wish life is much simpler.... Plz Help me :(

I say go with a PS2!
Since I assume you already have a PC, then you have to ask yourself "is there some games that I cannot play now that I can play with a new PC?" (okay, I'm assuming you're buying this for playing games?)
Compare the list of games that you come up with, with the games that you're going to get for the PS2. Then make your own call.

I had a similar dilemma a month ago - new monitor or new TV? Went for a new TV, and now I hardly ever touch my computer =) And I have my PS2 hooked up to my new TV of course =D

Believe it or not, Computer stuff in HK aren't really that cheap. They often cost the same or more then what they sell them for in the US. But great food is cheap :)

Get both! heh. and you know you could just upgrade your current pc. just buy a celly 2 566 and o/c it to 850 easy. very cheap upgrade. If you really do have a geforce ddr then a p2 450 isn't feeding it fast enough at all. My system was much like yours before i upgraded.. its a nice difference:) you really don't need to waste money on a whole new pc, do the cheapo upgrade and buy a new pc when comps are way way faster.

and 500bux? pc133 ram -$150 athlon i'm guessing $200, geforce gts $250, motherboard $140, +heatsink and other fun stuff..

Drop that T-Bird to a Duron and cut the Xgamer to a value.

You should then be able to have more money toward your PS2, and hopefully be able to afford it.

<<
get a comp dood.
more fun to build
>>

that just doesn't make sense. If you have no trouble building then it's over in like 1/2 hour. If you have trouble then you'll prolly wish you never decided to build the thing. Either way, what's the fun in that?

"The thing is I can still run the games i play right now really well, games like D2, AoE2, CS also very litle Q3 and UT."

Why up-grade a computer when it run your games real well???

If you must spend the money then get a PS2, but there isn't many games out for it yet.

Personally I would save the money and up-grade when I can't run the new games on the current puter, or buy the PS2 at a later date when the hardware are cheaper. If I have any guts, I would buy 30 share of AMD stock and sell it in six month for a gain to buy the PS2 & up-grade the puter.

PCPCPCPCPCPCPCPC!!!!!

Common guys.. it's the epic battle between PC and Console Games man!

We gotta support the PC industry, so they'll keep making great games for PC, and let the console freak drool on the amazing talent that ID, Blizzard, and other PC gamers have!! =)

I'd say buy the PS2 and spend the remaining $200 or so on whatever
component(s) will have the biggest impact on your computer's
performance.

Yeah, definitely go for the cheap processor and ram upgrades. Since you already have a PII 450, you could just as easily swap in a higher Mhz PIII or Celeron and Overclock it. You could up your ram by another 128mb w/ ~$70. That would leave plenty for the PS2. There's really no need for you to purchase an entirely new computer when you have a fairly decent one at the moment.
