Henrik Fisker, founder and CEO of Fisker Automotive, has resigned his position at the struggling automaker the bears his name.

In a statement released by the company, the reason for Fisker’s departure is related to differing opinions with the rest of the management team. “The main reasons for his resignation are several major disagreements that Henrik Fisker has with the Fisker Automotive executive management on the business strategy,” reads the statement.

Fisker Automotive is believed to be in the midst of a sale to, or major investment by, a Chinese company, Geely, which also owns Swedish automaker Volvo.

An upstart American electric car maker, Fisker Automotive has suffered numerous setbacks and continued product delays during its short existence. The Karma plug-in hybrid, while beautiful, has suffered from everything from battery issues to fires, while the company itself has had its low-interest U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) frozen, while battery supplier A123 recently went bankrupt.

Ugh - thank GOD I am not one of the people who bought/leased one of these cars. I initially found the exterior design appealing, but that's about the best thing I can say about them. Obviously Tesla has had its struggles, but at least they have a huge bankroll and years of experience as a carmaker. I find it sad that Fisker appears to be circling the bowl, but I guess that's life as a brand-new car manufacturer.

man that really sucks for those who bought. Its sad that they couldnt get it right. The razors edge between success and failure is like karma a bitch.

Now to buy one of those beautiful bodies and put a real engine in it. Would be sweet with a supercharged 5.4L V8 Ford crate.

Bob Lutz is helping some company that is going to sell Karmas with the ZR1's powertrain.

That might be in jeopardy now though as they were buying the Karmas and then converting them.

I found a place where I can get a demonstrator for a good price, but I'd rather not have to pay for a powertrain that I won't use. Maybe I could sell off the motors, battery and such.
