"What's behind the success is hard to say. The HEMI was a well-known name three decades ago, when an earlier engine family proved immensely popular in products like Plymouth's the 1971 426 Barracuda."

real hemi ;)

To the idiots who say "Hemi" is just a marketing gimmick - well if it is, it's working pretty damn well.

:D They only bad things i have heard about the Hemi is that it sometimes will have noticeable vibrations when in cylinder deactivation mode.
I hope that Chrysler can manage to fix the rest of thier lineup so they dont end up being like a one trick pony.

It's blasted across the television. They see the baby say 'HEMI' and they remember it.
Haha. :thumbsdown::D

But hey, the new Grand Cherokee is going to rock, and the 6.1L Hemi makes me feel good inside. Go Chrysler.

You know, I still don't know what I think about the new GC's look...saw one w/o much cameo on it last week (live near Detroit), and as much as I've liked the last two gen's, this new one's kinda iffy. As for the Hemi...I don't even think I've taken a ride in a car powered by one yet. Sad, I know.

I don't care what they call it, it's a 340HP American V-8 :), you can call it Bob, and it's still going to be hot.

This is from howstuffworks.com

If HEMI engines have all these advantages, why aren't all engines using hemispherical heads? It's because there are even better configurations available today.

It's a marketing ploy and it works. It rolls off the tongue much better than VQ35 or 22RE. How many times do you hear people talk about 1GZFE VVTi? HEMI is the power of an engine in one word.

A lot, when you actually care about the specifics of the engine going into the car. Hell, Honda could round off the cylinder heads and have a 1.7L HEMI VTEC. :p

HEMI is the power of an engine in one word.

Now, now, it's pronounced <Hick> "Hemmuh!" </Hick>

WTF does 1GZFE tell you? I can remember the stats of engines without their size being listed in the engine code.

The 1GZFE is a bit of a poor example, as it's the only Toyota V12. :p

And did you mean "Can't remember?"

That has nothing to do with marketing.

Hey, I never debated that point. :p

Name one.

You can't because the true hemi design is the best there is. Period. The Hemi chamber is the most effecient design available. The hemi makes more power than any other combustion chamber design.

Face it, the HEMI wouldn't be the choice of Top Fuel Dragsters if there were better designs. 'nuff said.

Actually, there are two designs that are more efficient power makers.

Rotary and turbine engines. They both have combustion chambers and are better at making power than piston engines. Their problem is they are great at making power but terrible at fuel effeciency. If only either of them had recieved the same amount of development that piston engines have.

LOL

Turbines? Have one in your car, eh? Must be driving the Batmobile. No combustion chamber, dude. Not even a piston engine.

Way to go genius.
