Helping someone with a Macbook connect to Wifi

It won't connect it lists an IP address and gives some error that it cannot connect online?

Anyone know of any solutions?

Her other Windows Laptop connects to Wifi just fine.

She doesn't use a VPN or Proxy.

The Macs network page. It says it's using the IP address xxx.xxx.x.x(can't recall the ip address) and it cannot connect to the internet.

Tried a few things with no luck.

It's on DHCP.

I tried Google searching about this and none of the results so far seemed to help.

I don't know too much about Mac but I doubt it's that drastically different. However I'm stumped.

OK, so it is connecting to the router, getting a valid IP and still not connecting to the internet? Have you tried plugging in a static IP in the appropriate range?

What brand is the router?

It's by Belkin. I will be heading over there soon.

I tried DHCP with entering a manual ip4 address. I will try a static IP address and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I still don't understand why it's not as smooth as other Wifi devices.

I will check for a firmware update on the router. As well as hard wire the Mac and check for updates.

I just had little time to try and figure it out Yesterday.

I have had hits and misses trying to connect Macs to Belkin routers. Same for Linksys.

The exact message is: Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address (number here) and will not be able to connect to the internet.

Ok, here come more questions, what version of OS X is on the MacBook?

You go into the System Preferences, and then Network, and then Advanced. Take a screenshot (CMD+Shift+3 for the whole screen, CMD+Shift+4 to make a selection) and put it up here, let's take a look.

At a certain point we were going to suggest that. Because eventually you will have hit the point where anything that could have been wrong on the Mac would have been corrected, leaving the router.
