Helping Me Choose A Pair Of Headphones...

I was in the market for some headphones..

I will be taking an over seas trip that will be about 10 hours long or so. I recently bought a RioVolt JR mp3 player so i can listen to my mp3s on the airplane.

Now i wanted to know which headphones should i get.

My Budget is about $80 AT MOST! The cheaper the better. ;)

The types of music i will be listening to is mostly Trance, UK Garage, DnB, House, Hard House, maybe some michelle branch, and sum 41.

I really like my bass to hit hard. So i might want one with a big driver. Clearer mids and highs would be great also...

Remember, My Budget is At Most $80.

Let me know what you guys recomend?

I have the Sony mdr-v600, they are one of those big-ass studio headphones....sounds pretty good, and it collapses into a ball for easy transport...they even give you a tranport bag. I think it is around $80.

I like my $20 sony mdr-cd180's.....but they do need an amp when I try to use them with my rhythmic edge sound card.

I went cheap, but I like the Panasonics I have (RP-HT355). The reason I bought them is that they have a 30ft cord and adjustable volume on the cord. :D

Not that I know jack about headphones, but those came highly recommended to me when I was looking for a pair.

Never did buy 'em, I really should.

I also have the Sony mdr-v600, and would recommend them, but I have also heard good things about the mdr-V6. I think they are a little cheaper and they are supposed to have a slightly different sound that many people like better, but it's really a matter of preference. If you are going to unload $80 for a set of phones be sure to listen to them fist to be sure you like what you are getting.

and if you still can find those cheap,
Sennhessier 545 or 570, I got those around 70 bucks from ebay

Sennheiser :)

HD490 were £50 in the UK. That shouldnt make them more than $80 I think.

If you're taking a flight , STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM GRADO!! your neighbors (on the flight) would surely appreciate it. i admit, they sound good, but they leak. They leak just enough to get a cabin full of passengers trying to sleep to walk over and whup yo ass.

LOL good point. I should warn you that the Sennheiser HD490 are an 'open' design too, so the sound leaks too.
After listening to loud music until 2am, the next morning my mum asked 'Did you have your radio or something on late last night?'

first, dont buy headphones, make your own.

Go out and buy a hearing protection headset, then drill some holes in the bottom of the ear pieces and run your speaker wires up into the headset and place the speakers under the foam inside... not only will you not be able to hear anyone else, most people won't be able to hear your music...

anyway, most headphones leaks.. what the heck..
and 490 sucks, i had two and my 545 is clearly better. Ussally I can't tell such subtle difference, but it did.
495 is a different story though...

I have two options for you:

1) The Aiwa noise-cancelling earphones are not bad. Since you'll be on the plane, you'll appreciate the noise-cancelling aspect. Also, they do a slight amplify, which is often good especially with wimpy MP3 players.

2) The other option, since you're gonna want that deep, thudding bass for your trance and house: The Koss Sportapros and Portapros. These things kick. Also Radio-Shack re-sells these (but be sure to look on the plug to make sure it says Koss on it!) The RadioShack ones are often on sale (I think there's a sale going on now), and they are way less than $80.00, you can afford to get 2-3 for that price. If you don't believe they can be any good for that price, take your MP3 player into RadioShack and give them at try!
