Helping in New Orleans this summer

Well, when school gets out, I will most likely be working at an ice-cream shop. But I would also like to spend as much of my summer as I can helping down in New Orleans. I know there have been many Church groups that have gone down. I was wondering if I could find a way to get with a church group going down and work with them. I doubt I could just go down there by myself without some form of group. I am 16 by the way. And I live in NH.
Any suggestions?

That's great you want to help. :)

Ummm, you could start by calling the red cross, I bet they could hook you up with someone, possibly. Good luck. Start with the bigger agencies, bet they have listings all over.

Great idea man... I'm just concerned about the possibilities of new hurricane strikes in the coming months. Take care of yourself too.

Not as impossible as you might think.

My now retired parents did just that. They encountered car-related issues (compressor, among other issues) in Louisana while driving from Florida to their summer home in Washington state. The repairs took approximately five days, during which they volunteered in a completely unplanned manner. As they've lived in Florida much of their lives, they've often provided relief efforts during the after-math of major hurricane strikes, and find the benevolence very rewarding.

Aside from your age, it should take terribly much more planning.

Thats what has me worried with all the people living in Fema Trailers.

Those things will become missions easily in a Cat. 1, Cat. 2 + hurricane.

Even a tropcial storm they could flip over at least.
