Helping buying case fans

I have a P4 2.8E (Prescott) and a Zalman 7000b-AlCu heatsink/fan. on idle temps are about 50C and load (when playing a game) 60-63. I had the AC off a couple days ago and was playing warcraft 3 I had the temps hit 70, unless the sensor was wrong. The case temps are about 40C under load. When I start the computer the temps are 46C and rise to 50C. Case temps are about 30C and rise to 36C.

I only have 1 exhaust fan, a Vantec Stealth 80mm. Vantec site says it is 27 CFM, 21 dBA, 2050 RPM.

I need an intake fan (front of case). A 80mm one. I need some suggestions on which fan to buy. Something quiet if it could be as quiet as the Vantec stealth or the Zalman that would be nice (the Zalman is about 26-27 dB at 2,600 rpm max speed), but also something that can keep the case cool. Can you list some inexpensive ones and maybe a few expensive ones or links for good sites with them? What is a good cfm on fans?

Another thing, I use the Asus Q-fan, does that only control the cpu fan? So if I were to buy a case fan and wanted to control the speed Q-fan wouldnt do it? I would have to buy a fan with its own heat sensor?

Thanks,

I'd suggest getting 2X 8cm Sunon ball bearing fans (that Vantec is a bit weak for a Prescott based system), in conjunction with a fan controller unit, so you can always slow down these fan to cut down on noise whenever possible.

The Asus Q-fan only control the CPU fan AFAIK.

Anyone else?

Can you hook up the Zalman Fanmate 2 that came with the 7000B-AlCu to a case fan or is that risky?

Can I suggest getting a better-ventilated case and be done with it? Antec SLK3000B is $46 shipped at Amazon.com and comes with a three-speed 120mm rear exhaust, that's more like it! Also, it has the side-panel duct so your CPU is basically pulling room-temperature air through the side of the case. Those two features ought to improve your CPU cooling without making a lot of noise. Newegg photo spread of SLK3000B

If your drives aren't black, then the mismatch of colors could be an issue, I guess... also, not everyone likes having a door over the drives. Zepper mentioned a Compucase model that's the same chassis with a different bezel (no door, comes in beige too) if you want more options.

To me 50C idle, 70 load seems pretty high even for a Prescott. Are you sure the CPU is making good contact with the Zalman?

You didn't mention what case you have but my first suggestion would be to get something better. If you only have 1 80mm exhaust fan you are limited to what you are going to be able to accomplish from a noise to CFM ratio.

Regardless, you don't want Sunon's for case fans if you're at all concerned about noise; they are loud fans at any voltage. I would suggest Panafo L1As or Yate Loons.

Most Asus boards are only able to control the CPU header, it's a hardware limitation sadly.
