Bottom line seems to be that we transmit the stresses our environment imposes on us generationally with the less love, warmth and security we experience, the poorer the mental health outcome. Put downs, harshness punishments creat mental health issues.

I think the result is that the worse things become the greater we reach to apply more of the very things that make us sick.

Every thing will get better if we can just make others pay for their sins. The greater the inner aggravation the greater the will to (not at) aggravate.

moonie, here's a direct link for ya...

Thanks, I got lazy.
Explain that line
The beatings will stop when moral improves. Mulla Nasrudin used to raise donkeys for sale but a large portion of his income went to feeding them so he cut way back of their food. That was working spectacularly well except they all died before he could sell them. Insanity is doing over and over again because it worked so well the last time. Violence begets violence. Etc.

I live next to a yuppie couple with two young kids. Some of the new age parenting shit are setting up that boy and girl for a lifetime of bullying and misery. This last summer I was laying outside reading a book under a fig tree I have on my property and overhead a women's social club the wife holds and feeding your children specific colors to help their spirits.

If it's multi colored veggies, that's good for their health. But if it's just artificial coloring, that's sad.
the color is mostly bullshit. few colors exist on the fruit and vegetable spectrum that indicate a higher percentage of vitamins and minerals of a specific kind. this was "give your kids less blueberries so they will be less sad and give them more carrots and oranges to shine like the sun. give them kiwis so their wing arms can be strong and flow in the air."

Count any parent giving their kids fruits and vegetables as a win dude.

depending on how its processed there's a lot of nutrient loss. I saw the kids eating cherries a few weeks ago which is a good start. The problem with these new age yuppies is they process already good food into something that loses 50-70% of its nutrients through heat exposure or exposure to liquid which then gets tossed. I grew up in a weird era where my parents were okay with canned veg and fruit but fresh stuff was more readily available in my childhood that it was priced the same as the canned junk. Even today I'm still practicing what I did as a child. Any food scraps except for meat or fats gets burried in the garden. Give it a year and it becomes a magnet for red wigglers, and their shit is amazing for your plants. You bury as shallow as you can to keep rodents and other animals away or lure them by throwing bones into the bushes or into the neighbour's yard at night... the red worms will much on those scraps and excrete their poo which you can directly apply or age before using. A good population will go through a 5 kg waste watermelon that was awful in a week or two depending on temperature and moisture.

I would rather see kids eating fruits and vegetables thank chips, cookies, and soda. There's just no comparison, even with some nutrient loss. Teaching good food habits will go a long way to fighting the food & lifestyle related illnesses afflicting large portions of the population.

Do kids still drink soda? It's been a long time since I've seen kids actively drink the stuff. Teens here seem to opt for healthier but not actually healthy drinks like arizona iced tea. I seldom see anyone that age or younger through their own will or by proxy be fed premade cookies unless it's from a bakery. IDK about potato chips. Some of the mexican brand are trying to make waves but stuff like Lays which is Walker's back home doesn't sell as well as it used to even with the funky flavors coming out. Tell you the truth most our age love potato chips but the last time I remember purchasing a bag of lay's was when their bags still had the top half in a swooping white. It never made sense to me when the more delicious pork scratchings were cheaper and weighed more in the bag. Taste a ton better as well.

I haven't built a section to house my piles yet and may not. Tumblers are too expensive and house little in what I want. The city here provides a heavily discounted compost bin but I know the model they sell and it sucks. I may buy a few 60-90 gallon trash bins with snap or locking lids and drill holes into them to compost in them. That's what I did at one place I lived at with limited space. You need a long auger bit but it gets the job done faster. I compost heavily as soon as the weather warms up. Ideally the plan is to revitalize the top 8" of soil in my preferred growing areas with natural amendments alongside bought soil in bulk cubic meters. There's some stuff I simply cannot get here even from a bulks seller and instead opting for something lesser. I don't plan on living at this home for more than 5-6 years and want to set things up to entice growth and new owners who'll appreciate the effort in the future.

Yes, kids still are ingesting unhealthy food. Whether it’s soda, sugared up ice tea, whatever. There’s a reason that obesity and it’s associated illnesses have increased so drastically in the last few decades.

Packaged foods, like chips and cookies, are consumed in large quantities by many people.

sugared up ice tea
you know I've lived in America for a long time but I will never forgive you guys for developing this abomination. Sweet iced tea or unsweetened. Tea must only be served piping hot.I didn't know it was even a thing until I was well into my adult years, married and living in the south. I've never drank water that exits gutters but I suspect it tastes the same.

Agreed, almost 100%

By that I mean tea is ok cold or hot, but both without sugar. With sugar == blech

Last time I had "sweet tea" as they call it down there, it was like soda sweet, gah. Thanks Kingsland, GA.

I will usually put less than one third teaspoon sugar in my condensed milk flavored black tea. Just enough to taste the sugar molecules but not enough to get addicted to it.

I am the only one here who knows how to eat properly or how to drink coffee and tea. Unfortunately I can't tell you those proper ways because you will become offended. And only the divinely gifted should know such things.

Don't be discouraged, however. One of you almost got something right about coffee.

Soda sweet? Wow, you got lucky. When my then wife and I moved to Georgia for work we were in a nice part of Fulton County. Most of our neighbours were heavy into the STEM field or well to do through other means. The sweet tea as I came to know of it for that region was sweet enough that it tasted like under watered down drinks syrup. That sticky sappy quality still there. I got rid of it over the course of an hour by splashing it into the grass. It was a summer party and it made sense to attend since most of those people were likely coworkers at the same companies. Our direct neighbour were a younger couple who were more health conscious and the wife realized I enjoyed cigars a few times a week when I smoked more regularly. She made a lapsang souchong iced tea with diced peaches from their yard. No sugar but the peaches were left to marinate for several hours releasing a delicate flavor and mild sweetness. I liked that and I've tried to recreate it many times but you can't get Georgia peaches out of the region. I've never had good stone fruit like I did when we lived in Georgia. Moving there for work was a one of a kind chance. I'd gotten a great offer by a well know company out west known for their product lineup I got a crazy offer in writing from a company that had a large facility in Georgia. Paid much more, better benefits and the cost of living would be less for us. I don't know if Georgia is the real south but I enjoyed my time living there. Prices are higher now but we were amazed at how much house and land we got for our money at the time. If we'd had children I wouldn't have minded raising them there with the fantastic non denominational private institutions there.

I was telling Mark the moderator about this a while back but the only other time I had very sweet tea was in Morocco years ago. Moroccan mint tea is gunpowder green, fresh peppermint and a ton of refined sugar. It's consumed piping hot but it's sickly sweet and you catch the sweetness if it cools enough that you can gulp it down. Beautiful country with a rich history but I simply cannot agree with what they call tea. To do so is an insult to the tea plant.
