Helpful fonts in X

Okay... nice fresh install of Redhat 7.1 (wow, it's come far since version 5!). Everythign installed and configured itself perfectly. The only thing that I need now is some fonts to make my browsing the web a little less painful. Can anyone point me to a packege or some individual fonts that are commonly used on the net that might help Netscape render pages much more nicely? Thanks.

There is a quick way to fix font readability issues. Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config (actually I think it's XF86Config-4 on RH 7.1 now) and look for FontPath entries.

Swap the order of the lines for 75 dpi and 100 dpi fonts so that the 100 dpi fonts are specified BEFORE the 75 dpi fonts. That will make Netscrape MUCH more bearable, although you should still consider installing Mozilla.

NOTE: I can't recall for certain if setting the FontPath is in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, it may be in a different file these days. My 7.1 box is unreachable at the moment or I would check it out.

Actually, when I finalyl realized that Mozilla 0.7 was installed, I immediately fired it up to go fine 0.9.4... ahh.. what a wonderful world... and no fussing with fonts 😉
Now I just need to work out a few issues with my mice (can I use 2 in Linux?) and compile NTFS support into the kernel and fix a few other minor things... but so far, all is well.

100dpi fonts are still better than 75 dpi fonts, and they are used other places than just in Netscrape. If you get around to fixing that you might like it.

I have NTFS support in my kernel, works just fine. Be advised that it's read-only, however. All the better I say, I'd rather let Winders 2000 screw itself up rather than being able to do it while having that partition mounted in Linux.

I'm actually trying to find a (graphical) utility to select what I want compiled into the kernel, however I cannot find the supposed utility that's included with my Redhat 7.1 install. Uhm... to put it simply... "I don' git it". Acutally... I'll just start a couple new threads. Thanks
