I know the Best Buy Gamer's Gift Card has been mentioned before in various threads of this forum, but here's some good ideas for use... YMMV as far as being in stock... they had tons of these lying around at the Fresno store.
The Best Buy Gamer's Gift Card is packaged in a CD jewel case and can be purchased for any amount that you want to put into the card. Inside each jewel case there is a coupon for $5 off any video game title or accessory priced $19.99 or up. The coupons are good until 12/31/03, and are good for B&M purchases only. There is no tax on these GCs.
Here's what I did today...
I had a $100 BB Gift Certificate that I received for Christmas as a present. I purchased 20 Gamer's Gift Cards and had the cashier make each of them worth $5. I now have:
20 $5 BB Gamer's Gift Cards (20x$5=$100)
20 $5 off $19.99 video game title or accessory good 'till 12/31/03 ($100 worth of coupons)
20 free CD jewel cases
Note that it's a pain for the cashier to charge all these cards, and an equal pain to use lots of them when purchasing items.
Here are some thoughts about it, though:
* Since (from what a clerk told me at the store) there is no minimum to what you can charge the cards for, theoretically you could get 20 $1 cards and still get the coupons to use throughout the rest of the year, plus the jewel cases. (Someone let me know if this is incorrect!)
* All PS2 Greatest Hits games are $19.99 -- this means you can get any of those for $14.99
* Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube is $19.99 at BB right now, so that makes it $14.99 as well. (Thanks to the Big Gamecube List for this one! I picked up a copy!)
* You can use multiple coupons in a single purchase, but only on items that are priced over $19.99. I picked up 2 copies of Beach Spikers for the Gamecube (thanks again Big Gamecube List!) for $9.99 each, and couldn't use a coupon on the combined value.
* These can't be used online, and there were no pre-orders for the new Zelda or other games in the store, so I was out of luck there.
* These gift cards can be used on anything in BB, not just gaming stuff.
* They don't give you cash back as change... you have to keep track of the remaining value on a card.
Good luck!
