I am having a strange problem that just occured today. I have a few icons on my desktop (.jpg's) along with other misc. shortcuts to programs. When I try and open the .jpg's sometimes I get an error saying somethng to the effect that the path may be invalid. Then, the next time, it will open fine????
Sometimes it does open the .jpg but it takes 10-15 seconds. Waaaaay too long from what it was doing.
IE6 opens really slow sometimes also. All of OfficeXP , Photoshop Elements, zip files, and Irfanview opens normal
This is on an XP1600 (not overclocked) with a 80GB MAxtor hd and recent fresh install of win2k pro.
I really don't want to have to reinstall all this stuff. Anyone ever have anything similar happen?

seen it before, problem went away after a week or so... never worried about it much
Well you were sorta right. It did go away. But now it's back. I really don't like to worry about stuff like this either but with a virtually fresh install of win2k it really shouldn't take My Computer almost 30 seconds to open. has anybody seen something like this before. I really don't want to have to format this thing again.
I also ran scandisk and degrag.

Are there any free anti-virus apps out there? What in the world is going on?
