ok, here's what i got:
T-bird 800Mhz
Abit KT7-RAID mobo
Enlight full tower w/ 300watt power supply
Here's what i added to it from my old machine (it all worked perfect):
256MB generic PC-133 SDRAM
WD enterprise 18GB HDD
3com PCI 10base NIC (it was free)
generic PCI 56K winmodem
*Hercules Prophet DDR-DVI 32MB AGP video card (Geforce chipset)
*3dfx Voodoo3 2000 16MB AGP vid card
OK, here's my problem. i built this box about 3 months ago and have had non-stop problems with it since then. The main problem is with either video card installed, at certain points of high CPU usage the video will black out and return several seconds later. in fact with the geforce card installed it happens so much the machine is unusable. I can make the machine usable by installing my Voodoo3 card, though the screen will still blank occasionally. This is not just a Windows problem in my opinion, since the screen will blank quite a bit in the BIOS menu and Startup (pre-windows) screens. I have had these problems with both win98 and win2k installed.
Here's what i have tried:
1) Made sure current BIOS version is installed.
2) Made sure current 4in1 drivers are installed.
3) Disconnected EVERYTHING from the motherboard except vid card, ram, CPU and power (it still would go blank in Bios menus).
4) Tweaked EVERYTHING in the bios according to half a dozen troubleshooting webpages.
Keep in mind that i am a professional computer technician, and i've tried all the regular troubleshooting tricks.
This problem is kicking my butt, and i was wanting any further suggestions you all might have.
My last 2 ideas that i have not tried yet:
1) Try a different power supply in case the one in my case isn't actually pushing 300watts.
2) Try a differesnt motherboard since i have read quite a bit about how they had quality control problems with this board.
