I have win 2000 pro on cd. I load up with my startup disk, then i can access my cd-rom, i browse and files and see, setup.exe, when i rn setup.exe it says it can't be run in dos mode. Wtf i have a new hard drive, how do i get an os on it??
To install Win2K, don't even bother with CD-ROM drivers because the CD is bootable, so just leave it in and boot up. If your CD-ROM drive doesn't support bootable CDs, then do the same thing you have been and run "WINNT.EXE" in the i386 directory, and that will install the OS.
there is different types of setup for w2k pro, try typing install, or setup, or setupi386.exe, try cd i386, dir *.exe.... have some empty floppies ready...
Hender has it right, if you are not bootable off the cd and boot with a floppy to install from DOS, copy and use smartdrive onto your floppy for a much faster install.
