Yes just look what kind of hd drive it is I(SATA) and see if the mobo supports it and in this case it does

wasnt sure cos hd is sata 3.0 and mb says sata 1

No the 3.0 I think you are refering to is the transfer speed. I don't believe they even make SATA III yet but if you did see it, it would be in roman numerals like how I just wrote it. Atleast thats how they write SATA II now.
