I have trouble reinstall win xp on my old dell dimension and I'm getting error 7 which couldnt loaded some files on win xp cd, i think bad memory or bios might cause this error and then I tried windows xp home edition sp1 and its show some kind of uncommon error 'hard error' then I tried win me, its frozen during format and when I tried linux mandrake 10.0 and its worked.. so how can I format the hard drive on bios or dos and fix this uncommon problem?

One way to blank the drive would be to use DBAN, or use a utility made by the hard drive's own manufacturer to write zeros to it (and to test it, if necessary). Here's a page with links to some of the HDD manu's utilities: http://www.mechbgon.com/build/resources.html They're right at the bottom of the page.
