I have a 20 GB Maxtor HDD. It has become riddled with bad-sectors. I have about as much money as the proverbial church-mouse. Is there any freeware that can help?

Not really, its only gonna get worse. If the bad sectors are at the beginning or end of the drive you might try partitioning it so your good partition is past (or before) the bad sectors and not use the partition with the bad sectors.

You can run maxtor diagnostics on it too. I think one of them tries to recover bad sectors but Im not sure, and I wouldnt trust it if it did anyway.
