HELP!!

My dad has an IBM Thinkpad, and he pushed the power button and the computer started showing a lot of numbers on the screen. Next, the computer shut down, and I have tried different power cables/adapters, the battery is in, and no matter how many times I push the power button it just won't start. My dad has a lot of word documents that are for work and he will lose them all if the computer won't start back up because he didn't backup. Any help would be great!

call ibm tech support. sounds like an issue that is beyond a simple fix. motherboard, cpu or ram could be out. id get on the phone with ibm if i were you. hopefully someone with better advice that knows more about laptop hardware will see this thread and lend a hand if possible.
