ok- i was playing battlefront last night, and i tried to quit while a level was loading- everything went black, and nothing happened for 2 or 3 minutes. so, i tried, alt-tabbing, alt-f4ing, and cntrl-alt-deleting. nothing worked, so i pulled the plug from the power supply.
i was under the impression that this doesnt hurt anything- was i wrong? it wont turn on.
the motherboard is getting power- the ethernet port is lit up.

It would have been better to just push the power button or hold the power button. or just restart button.

If your computer still doesn't boot after that, you want to take everything out and try running just your motherboard, CPU w/heatsink fan, memory, and video card on some non-conductive surface and see if it boots up. (Do this all the time at work)

Clearing the CMOS may not solve the problem. I've seen it more than once that a card goes bad or needs to be reseated. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if your network card went bad.

thankfully, clearing the cmos fixed it right away.

oh man, I was going to tell you to check if you had pluged the power cord back in after you pulled it. 🙂

I was playing Enemy Territory one day and during a map change the comp locked up. Nothing worked so I hard resetted it. Then it would keep saying that my hdd wasn't being recognized. I tried to turn it on about 5 more times. I went into bios to see my primary drive and it said something like "unknown device". Anyways, I didn't have to reset my cmos, I just let it sit about 40 minutes and it worked fine afterwards. I really dont' understand what could have been wrong that was fixable by letting it sit 40 minutes but whatever.
