HELP!!!!

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from 512 mb of ram for good photoshop performance (brushes lag with 512mb). I'm not a very advanced user and maybe 20 layers and 20 mb will be the most intense work i might attempt on this comp.

I most probably will be getting a new system in around 6 months... so i don't want to spend any unnecessary money on this. (i'm from india and used computer parts don't really sell)

So i wanted to find out if 1.5gb would really make for a big performance advantage or if it will run perfectly with 1gb... THANKS!!!!

Assuming you are running XP, 512 is going to be a big improvement.

1GB would be even better, but, if finances are a concern, as they almost always are, the 512 will probably provide enough of a boost to help out--you mentioned you did not want to invest too much in this soon to be replaced system.

I assume you have DDR400--DDR2 is very cheap right now....if possible, might be best to stay with the 512, and save for that new system....DDR2 costs about half as much as regular DDR400 does now.

hey, thanks for replying!

it was stupid of me not to mention what ram i was using... the stick now is ddr 333 i think. but my mobo can run ddr 400... which is what i'm going to get... it won't matter if the 2 sticks work at different clock speeds right? if they were compatible, would there be any kind of performance issue?

Thanks again... now i'm pretty clear that i don't want to invest in already obsolete memory... 😀 so another 512 stick it will be... hopefully a ddr 400 thanks again!

Hi--

DDR400 is backwards compatible with DDR333--put a DDR400 stick in, and it will run at DDR333--it runs at the least common denominator speed.

Good luck with your new system too, in a few months.....

Yes. This is true.

Also though, seeing as how you are saving to get a new system in a while...
If the DDR-333 is cheaper than the DDR-400, there is nothing wrong with buying that either.
