I'm trying to help a friend set up the CLI client as he wants to get away from the GUI. Problem is, when he tries to connect with the CLI it says server not found. Had him ping Berkely and lost all 4 packets. What's going on?

Is this 128.32.18.186? ("setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu"/"gates.ssl.berkeley.edu")

I can ping it, maybe a temporary outage? That would be no surprise. Have you tried again?

I just ran SetiTeam and had to resend about 40 times before I made a connection. So the problem is probably at Berkeley.

Just keep trying and eventually you should get a connection.

Let me post a link to the bandwidth status so we can see what's going on. 😉

I don't know how to read all of this but I don't see any big outage?

Is he running the seti driver in the same folder?

Make sure he sets things up just as is instructed in the links for the team. First thing is to click new client and run login to seti berkley.....

lets get some specifics here...........

ehum,

Step 4: Now click "Save Config", and then "Transmit" (Do not click New Client).

😛 😀

He's got seti driver and seti spy in the same folder. Everytime he trys to connect using the CLI, he puts #2 and then his e-mail addy, then up pops "cannot connect to server".
Tried moving the user_info file back to Seti@Home folder thinking it would know who he is and let him connect..... No dice. Still gets "cannot connect to server". Think it could be a DNS problem?

I even had him remove all seti files from his computer and start fresh....still not connecting. This has me stumped!

I just tried to setup a NEW account and got contact with Berkeley immediately. So I now doubt it is a bandwidth problem there.

Since you are using "2", the email address must be exact. Check for misspellings, spaces, and even CAPs.

Can he see his Seti Stats for the account?

Try the above link and make sure he can see his current account. It will have to be the exact email address to work.

He's in Scotland, so I'll have to wait for tomorrow? to contact him. Does anyone have Yahoo messenger installed on their box? I've tried evrything I know, maybe I can put him in touch with one of you, if that's o.k.
