HELP XP standby mode on its own..

i really dont have the tolerance for this.. someone help me out. my computer goes into standby on its own without me touching anything. i jus FORMATEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM but its back.. all ive installed is AIM and KaZaa AND THAT IS ALLL!!!!!!!!!!! help please./.

MS released a critical update for a standby problem. Don't remember exactly what it was for, but you should probably run Windows Update if you haven't already..

its not the power settings.. unless im missing something.. but none of the standyby stuff is enabled. last night it shut down so many times i gave up b4 i flipped out and it did something to my modem, lost connectivity with it or something, it like delted it. so i removed it and restarted to reinstall it and it wouldnt find it. this morning when i started up it found and installed it. right now im at 39c, last night i was around 54c, i dont know if that has anything to do with it... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.. my computer is suppose to be awesome yet its totally useless..

and by the way i ran all the critical updates, im running the xp and driver updates now but so far no luck. and that standby update says for problems with resuming from standby.. not putting me into standby.. constantly.. time after time... im suprised i got to type this message..

Check the BIOS for the Power options also. They can be responsible. 54 C is a bit high but not a problem. I doubt it is that. The fact that it wouldn't detect the modem and then would the next morning is troublesome. Do you have another/different keyboard you could hook up to it? Just a shot in the dark. You might also try resetting the BIOS by using the Clear Cmos jumper if it has one. That will throw all your BIOS settings out the window and reset to default settings. Even though it will not properly detect the CPU speed, run it at the default settings for a while and see if the behaviour continues. The only other thing I can think of is install a temperature monitoring program like MBM5 and have it check temps every 10 seconds or so (which it will log in a text or html file if you enable it). Then you can go back and see if there are any "spikes" in voltages and temps before it kicks into the "standby" mode.

...lost me.. im good with but not that smart when it comes to computers.. but 54c isnt the highest its been, in the summer when its hot and i have no aiur contioning it will be alot hotter.. should i get a better fan or somethin? one day this year it was real hot and it was at some insanely hot temp liek 140f or 160f, so i shut down. i do have a monitoring program, speedfan. its using 8% right now and its a 54c and my room isnt all that hot.. the good news is that i fell asleep after i ran live updates and was scanning my computer, is after i installed the xp and driver updates, and it hasnt gone into standby.. id didnt the whole time norton was running either and that was a long time so maybe that stanby update fixed it.. a light on my keyboard is blinking.. dont know what its for.. but thats the only thing out of the ordinary i notice right now.. question, will getting specialized drivers for my radeon n sb live n stuff do anything? cuz i had all my drivers n stuff setup b4 i restarted when the computer sucked but it runs pretty good right no.. im jus wondering if they,, mess anything up. if u think i should and are really bored u can paste links to get them my rig description is on my profile thingy i think..

turns out that update didnt fic it cuz it jus did it again, and shut down when i tried to come out of stanbdby. im starting to think its something with the keyboard cuz that blinking light is real weird..
