HELP! XP celan install QUESTION!

Everytime I reboot after the files are copied over to the hard drive. I get a:

ATAPI.sys is corrupted hit any key to continue and restart. The XP install wont go any further! How do i fix this?

I have an AMD setup:

AMD t-bird 1.4 GHz
40 GB Hard Drive partitioned
48x burner
52x cdrom

It is s normal setup for the most part. I already fdisked and formatted the drive. the blue screen that says please wait while setup copies files to your disk finishes and then i reboot. WIndows then checks to see if the files are ok to continue setup and then the ATAPI.sys is corrupt shows up. This has happened about 5 times now. I am lost.

The only things I can come up with are a possible bad install CD, or improper drivers for the controller (F6 prompt at the start of the install), or booting to the wrong partition.

hmmmm....i did have this virus before and i was trying to clean it..but i stopped and formatted my drive. Now i am stuck in DOS. I need some kind of DOS virus scan that can run in DOS.
