HELP, XP 1700+ OR P4 1.6A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I AM GETTING MY NEW SYSTEM.
SO I NEED HELP IN CHOOSING MOBO+CPU
I HAVE 2 OPTIONS
ATHLON XP 1700+ AND SOLTEK KT266A CHIPST MOTHERBOARD(SL 75 DRV2)
OR
P4 1.6 A GIG NORTHWOOD+ASUS P4S 333
WHICH WILL BE BETTER?
I INTENT TO OVERCLOCK BUT I WANT TO AVOID IT IMMIDIATELY. AS FAR AS POSS IBLE.
I CAN GET HYNIX 256MB DDR RAM AT AROUND 80$ OR THE PQL 512MB DDR FOR 100$
WHICH ONE SHOULD I GO FOR?
I THINK ANYWAY BUYING ATHLON IS RISK OF CPU BURNNING AND OVERCLOCKING P4 IS THE SAME TOO!
PLEASE TELL ME WHICH ONE WILL BE BETTER
PRICES OF AMD+SOLTEK AND P4+ASUS ARE ALMOST SIMILAR.
WHICH ONE WILL BE BETTER IF I DONT OVERCLOCK?

considering the price (wow i can't believe i'm saying this), i'd go w/ the P4. sure the XP outperforms it in some of the benchmarks, but only in benchmarks, for the average user they won't be able to tell the difference all other components being equal.

w/ the P4 you get GREAT performance but security, no need to worry about chip frying (internal thermistor will shut down ur cpu if ur hsf fails) and stability.

w/ the XP you get marginally better performance, but you do have to be concerned w/ overheating on an XP system and stability.

anyway, i have both, xp 1700 in my system now and a new northwood p4 coming to me from newegg.com. but if i had to buy just one, i'd get the p4.

i agree, i'd go with 1.6a p4. amd's you'll need to get a good heatsink+fan or else it'll fry.
