Hello. I am having some big problems, and hope you can help me! Firstly, I downloaded XOSL, and decided to install it without reading the readme's and FAQ's, and made the mistake of installing it to my C:\ from within Windows!! (I only found out on another computer that that was not to be done!)
When I installed it, I chose to install to C:\ , and not to my active or logical partition. Then it installed the files for me, and wrote to the Master Boot Record. It then gave me the option to reboot, so I did. My Windows 98 SE rebooted, but after the quick bios screen, just stopped. It would not start to load Windows 98SE, but would just try to access my floppy drive (a:\) whenever any key was pressed.
I tried booting up with my Win 98 startup disk, but was not able to read my c: and d: drives (as my 30 gig hard drive was partitioned into 2 drives), as the startup disk wrote to the c: drive, making it the temporary RAM Drive. I now have no way of accessing my c: and d: drives, to restore the MBR, or rewrite it by typing sys c:
BTW, it had on it EZ-BIOS or EZ-DRIVE, and would show up before it booted Windows, but after installing XOSL, it would not show up anymore.
The thing is, I cannot reformat my drive as I cannot access c:\ , and also there is some very valuable information on it that I cannot afford to lose.
One other thing. I do have another hard drive with Windows 98 SE on it, and it boots up fine, but when I add it to my computer with the Hard Drive that does not currently boot up, it does not show up from Windows, even though my BIOS acknowledges that it is there, and recognizes it. Therefore, I cannot get to my data, and back it up.
Hopefully you can help me with this one! Any input would be truly appreciated!
Thank you,
Matt
