Hi -
I swapped a Venice 3200 for a x2 3800. Same MB, RAM, hard drives, case etc. The only difference was the CPU and the HSF.
The Venice is using a Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu. The x2 is using the stock HSF that came in the box from AMD.
I could OC the Venice by 250 mhz, and the CPU temp under load (SETI@HOME running) would sit around 46-50 depending on the room temp.
The IDLE temp for the x2 is 56. Under load (1 instance of Prime95), the temp goes up to 64!
I thought the x2 was supposed to run cooler? This seems ridiculous.
Just tonight I removed the HSF from the x2, cleaned everything real well and applied a new layer of Arctic Silver. No change in temps.
Any ideas why it could be running so hot?
I'm using a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mb, with latest BIOS. Temps are as reported by the MSI Core Center running under Windows.
I'd like to use the Zalman on the x2, but since the warranty is voided if I don't use the stock HSF, I'm being cautious.
I would appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!
