Hey guys I was typing as essay for school just now using wordpad, and i also had my documents window open. I went to open "my music" folder in my documents but it froze, so i ctrl+alt+del and ended My documents as a task. I got some sort of error message which i just clicked away and surely My documents closed itself, but for some reason Word Pad closed itself also along with it. I restarted Word Pad hoping it had an auto save feature when crashing like Word does, but it didnt recover my essay. I didnt save the essay at all before Word Pad crashed, is there anyway of recovering my essay doc? Or am i out of luck? This is a pretty big emergency!!! thanks

You are out of luck. Are you certain that WordPad isn't running on the background and just isn't displayed on the taskbar?

Your only hope is to look in your user temporary directory (it might be hidden and there's more than one place to look) and try to oepn any/all files in wordpad. You might luck out and find something. I've recovered word files that werent' saved this way. Not sure if you can pull this off wordpad but it's worth a try.

Good luck.

99% chance that you will not be able to recover your essay as it was only in ram and not saved to the HDD. But at least try this:

- Use the "Search" capability and search the C partition using find text or words in file option. Use wild cards if needed to search any/all file types and be sure to include hidden files in the search. Then search on one or two or three unique words or phrases that you used in your essay that most likely would never be expected to appear in any other file (eg, a word like "existential" or some unique date such as "Dec 1872" provided it was used in the essay. Search on the word or phrase exactly as it was typed in the essay.)

Hopefully, if the essay file is on the HDD at all, then it might be identified thru finding the unique key words.
