I have a file in Xvcd format. Can I burn this to a DVD-r blank using nero. If so, how?

thanks.

xvcd is nothing more than vcd with higher/variable bitrates. If the resolution and audio are 1/2D1 or DVD compliant you can make a true DVD out of it using something like TMPGENC DVD Author, DVD Studio Pro, etc., then burn to DVD with whatever burning software you have. Whether or not your DVD player will play it back is another issue. To find out how to do it or if your player will play them, check out DVDrhelp.

If you literally just wanted to copy the xvcd to dvd-r with nero then ya, you can.

thanks Childs. I actually looked over at dvdrhelp.com first. They have alot of good info but most of it was over my head. Yeah, I want to burn it to a dvd -r and play itr on a stand alone dvd player. I know my dvd player will play SVCD and VCD and I think it will play XVCD's. I am at work now so I don't have nero on this pc but I was wondering if there is an option to just burn an XVCD (like there is for VCD and SVCD). BTW I have the latrest Nero version 6.3.x.x or something.

Well, I believe Nero will try to reencode the audio and video since its not strictly spec. Just turn off compliance and give it a go. If you have one, use a dvd-rw first! I dont think it will tho, as the DVD and VCD file structures are different. You'd probably need to create a simple DVD first, then burn. Check out TMPGENC's DVD Author. I believe its unlocked for x number of days before you need to register. I haven't used it in awhile, graduated to DVD Studio Pro.

I downloaded the trial version of TMpgenc DVD author but when I click on the file it says "This is an illegal video file. For DVD standard you can only use MPEG-1 Video or MPEG-2 Video." So, do I need to convert this to mpeg? It is currently a DVDRip.XviD-DMT.
Any ideas?

Heh...I thought I've give DVD Author a shot for a quick DVD and ran into something similar, but with an MPEG2 file...I don't remember it being like that. Anyways, is it an xvid encoded AVI file or an XVCD? Those are two different things.

I finally got it. I, incorrectly, thought it was an XVCD. It is an XVID. I have never seen either of those before. I can't remeber which program I used but when I put the file in there is all of a sudden had an .avi extension.
So, I used MainConcept MPEG Encoder to convert it to MPEG and then DVD Author to make it DVD then burned it.

Sorry for the goose chase I led you on and thanks for all your help.
