Help with XP Pro Installation problem

This is a weird one! I picked up a new MB yesterday and layed the parts out on a table to do the installation (not in case.) Was able to install Win XP Pro, but when it gets to configuring stuff a box pops up saying that it will automatically adjust video, seen it many times. I am to click OK or hit Enter key. but neither works!

I reboot and it comes up to admin login screen. Can't type password. So, I am stuck.

The mouse and keyboard have worked during installation, kb works in BIOS

When I started I was using system connected to KVM switch. I put on both PS2 and USB style kb and mouse to try. Also reinstalled with each, actually did a Fix. Didn't make a diff.

I am reformatting and will reinstall W/O admin password to see if it gets past that.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks for the bump!

Well, reformatting allowed me to get it installed, but stuff was missing. No IE, on icons for users in CP. The screen was blue instead of the default windows desktop.

So, I swapped out the CD ROM drive and am doing a repair.

Next step will be to box it up and return it. 🙁

Glad you got it fixed JW!

(CD drive issues sure doesn't seem to match the symptoms you described though)

I had same issues, either the laser had trouble reading it or scratches to the disk allowed corrupted files. I have seen this one a lot. I have too many scratched disks laying around, each cdrom reads a bit different so I get by it in most cases.

sorry I was late to the party.
