hey all I am really stumped on this problem. I keep randomly getting bsods with windows xp home sp2

the messages keep showing up like this

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

*** stop (0x0000005,0x8054aa32,0xf707798c,0xf7077688)

sometimes the numbers change but those happened to be the ones shown when i wrote it down last time. any help would be massively appreciated.

Every time I have ever seen this, it is from something corrupting or screwing with windows' internal system files. It could be something bad in your system corrupting data, or it could be a bug, worm, virus, trojan, etc.

The best solution would be to take the PC to a tech, unless you know how to troubleshoot hardware going bad / detect virii from another system with this box's system as a secondary data drive (best method for virus abatement there is IMO)

There's an error code that's all caps with underscores, Ex. XXX_XXXX_XXXX

something of that nature. could you post that as well?

it is completely random..sometimes it will run rock solid, but sometimes it will do it 5 or six times in an hour. I have ran memtest, did virus and antispyware scan, updated all my drivers. I have even swapped out video cards. and as far as rasczak mentioned the error code sometimes i get IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN or something similar but usually just bsod with the different stop codes. also every once in a while the monitor will kick off like it's switching to power saving mode but the power light stays green instead of switching to orange as usual. but when you move the mouse around to bring the desktop back up....nothing...you have to turn off with the power switch and reboot which i REALLY don't like doing. sorry for the long rambling post. hope you can make sense of it.

I'm assuming you have Windows XP, and in the extremely off chance this update wasn't installed, KB887742.

But seeing as you're also getting IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, my guess is bad drivers. Its possible there is a bug in the latest iteration of some of your drivers, if possible, could you supply a list of your hardware?
