hi all,

My dad is getting up there in age...he's 65. He's in the hospital right now for a follow up to an emergency he had over the summer and they are reconnecting him after having a colostemy bag. (we almost lost him but he's doing fine now).

What he said that he wanted for christmas this year are 'experiences'. Like trips or things....basically things that are different and fun.

The only problem is that, not only is he older, he also has bad arthritis and can't do a lot of physical things.

Driving sports cars for a day, for example would be too tough on his body. he can't shift gears and keep his arms up that long.

Anyone have any ideas?

thanks.

Swim with dolphins? Trip on an African safari? Visit Rome or Paris? Perhaps take him to the country his family is from?

Just make sure you don't tour Norway only to find out he is Scottish. (or whatever that commercial is that has been playing lately for Visa)

Taking him to the country of his heritage would be pretty awesome. You wouldn't have to do too many physical things. Rent a car and drive him around and just see stuff.

1) does he have any favorite celebrities he'd like to meet? there are some companies out there that (for a nice price) may be able to hook your dad up for dinner or something w/ his fave celebrity.

2) does he like wine or have a favorite snack/food? if so, maybe you can get a small tour at a vineyard or a tour of a factory where he can see his favorite snack being made?

Maybe you guys are right on the sending him to where his family comes from. he's been wanting to go to Scotland for that reason. thats a great idea! Maybe he could stay in a castle or something there.

I think he'd rather have the 2 chicks, but i dont know if my mom would go for that! haha...

thanks all for the great idea.

You'll have to wait until this latest surgery is behind him to find out what he can do. Long plane trips can be brutal. Can he endure airports, sitting for hours at a time, possibly not having access to the bathroom for hours, etc.?

Is he into any particular type of music? Being in LA you should be able to find all sorts of concerts.
