Help with windows XP Repair - Ghost copy from IDE to SATA

I am having trouble Repairing the windows XP.
I had exisiting windows XP pro running on one computer It was on IDE drive. I used Maxblas to doa ghost copy to a SATA drive for a dell 8400.
I did the repair under teh bootable xp pro setup. When it comes to the point of restart and after resart it doesnt start windowx. Right after bios load it comes to a blank screen witha a cursor blinking on top. It seems liek there is an issue with the boot record. I tried to fixboot and fix mbr but it didnt help.
Anyhhelp would be great.

yea i did. It repairs it but it does not boot the drive. Its nothing wrong with the installation. Something wrong witht the boot record.

This is a common problem with SATA drives and controllers.

Acronis will do the job. I own it and have used it myself under these circumstances.

If you copied the partition and not the entire drive, then the boot partition may not be set as the Active partition. It must be set to active to be bootable. You can set it using FDISK from a 98 boot disk or using Partition Magic.

You must have SATA drivers installed on the HDD so it can boot on the 8400.

So, take the old HDD, put it into the 8400. Does the 8400 boot up? If so, great - you need to install SATA drivers. Now, confirm they work and the Dell boots smoothly. Now Maxblast the old drive onto the new SATA drive. You should now be able to work great.

If the 8400 didn't boot up after you put the PATA drive in there, take it back to your old PC. Change the disk controller, from within device manager, to PCI IDE Standard. *DO NOT REBOOT*. Shut down, then immediately take it to the Dell 8400, and boot from it. Then continue to install the SATA driver and any other Dell 8400-required drivers. Then maxblast the drive to the SATA drive.
