Help with Windows Remote Desktop.

I forwarded port 3389 to my local ip (192.168.123.50). I have my main machine set up to allow connections.
Type in the IP/username/password at work but never would connect. Also, I can ping my ip address fine (68.47.xx.xx).

I usually use pcanywhere with no problems so I'm sure this is user error.
BTW, no firewalls on either end.

yes, that's the ip. I've tried so many times but i don't know if I've intentionally left off the username and password. At home now and left my laptop at work so I can try it tomorrwo.
 
Have you verified that you can Remote Desktop to the machine from the LOCAL network? There are lots of things that can prevent RDP from working. From another PC in the same network, try a Remote Desktop connection to 192.168.123.50 and make sure THAT works.

If the machine WILL accept connections from the local network, then doublecheck with "Shields Up" from http://grc.com to ensure that 3389 really is open and not being blocked by some unknown firewall or setting.

Also, remember that you usually CAN'T test port forwarding from inside your own network. That's a common mistake that everybody makes at least once. You have to be OUTSIDE the network to test of Port Forwarding is working.
 
I haven't veriefied it yet inside my network because my other pc is down. I'll check with shieldsup to make certain.
 
Remote desktop enabled?

ADSL router? if so did you reboot it once you port forwarded.

password set on your home machine? it wont let RDP unless you do IIRC

is the windows firewall on, now i have seen it be on but the padlock icon isnt there. if it is off or broken, add the port to the exceptions list anyway.

make sure your internal ip hasnt changed unless you made it static in which case you dont need to.
