Help with win2k reinstall...

Ok, I started getting registry errors after switching cpu's.. stupid me.... so now i need to reinstall

i remember reinstalling before, and after i did it, my settings were the same and everything was fine and dandy

butnow, i'm confused. the install detects the previous version successfully, and finds the right folder to install to
however, i get a screen that says that there is already a winnt folder, which is correc...
it says that if i use this folder for installation, then all my settings and my documents will be erased...

but i remember from past experience that this won't happen....

if i choose that folder, will my settings and documents be erased???

If you re-install win2k, making sure NOT to select the format option, then it will simply overlay and NOT erase all your data.

but as a precaution can you at least get into the OS to backup your "my documents" etc..?

i can't get into the os.... when it finishes booting, i get a blue screen

ok, i'm in the middle of the reinstall and i chose not to format, but to overwrite
it found my current win2k installation, and then it found my current winnt folder
it's saying that overwriting this folder will destroy my settings...

but when i did this before, it didn't.....

so if i do overwrite, will my settings and my documents folder be intact?
