Help with Win2k on Asus P5A

Ok, I need some help getting Win2k installed on a system I have. I'm running an AMD K6 II 500 in an Asus P5A and I want to install win2k pro on it. I checked ntcompatible.com before I bought the barebones system to see if other people had encountered problems with the installation. There were multiple entries from people who had gotten it to work.

Silly me, I figured it would be a piece of cake.
Originally, I had win2k already installed on the hard drive I put in the system, so I just plugged it in and booted it up and got the "ntloader could not be found" message. Windows wouldn't start.

So I used a different computer to install WinME on my hard drive, and that is what I am currently running. I have tried numerous times since then to get Win2k to work using the methods posted on ntcompatible.com with no luck. It goes through the installation process each time, but when the initial boot begins, I get the "ntldr not found" again.

I ran Win2k on my old system and loved it, I would like to go back to it if at all possible.
The Asus support site doesn't offer much help, any ideas?

I recommend:

1. Wipe the hd (Backup however you need to)
2. Do a full-install of Win2k after booting from the CD
3. At the first "blue" screen of the installer, hit F5 and scroll up until you see "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface PC"
4. Complete the install after that...

If it STILL doesn't boot, then I think there are a couple of possibilities:
1. You have a bad installation CD
2. Your system is producing HD errors somehow. I had a problem with my old Seagate 7200 rpm drive and the ASUS P5A...there was a chipset incompatibility which wouldn't even allow Windows to install, so I had to return the drive for an updated one.

Also, if all other options fail, try switching your CD-rom drives... I had a cd-rom drive that wouldn't read my installation disk correctly until I updated the firmware on the cd-rom drive (it was an Acer 50X, I think).

It can be done, because I did it over the summer...
Asus P5a 1.04, Voodoo3 3000, 20gig Maxtor, Acer 50X CDRom, 128megs PC100 RAM...

Good luck,

Kyle

Thanks for the help, I've got a new Western Digital 30 GB drive comming this week, and I'm going to try the 2k install again. I know it's not the instalation disk, because I installed win2k on my old PC with the same disk. Generally, all of my hardware is the same as in my old system, the only variances being the board and processor. The same hard drive that used to have 2000 on it, won't boot with 2000 in the new PC, so I'm hesitant to think it's the hard drive.

One more question I have is does the F5 key give you different options depending on which version of 2000 you're installing? I could never find the ACPI option installing professional. I haven't tried installing either of the server versions on this machine. Does anyone know?

Thanks
