Help with Win2k network

My home network was working all fine until i took my mobo out to test another one. Well i put the old one back in and my network doesn't work anymore. I think i put the cards in different slots. Well...both computers have win2kpro and when i go into the event viewer there is an error and it says that the other computer believes that it is the master browser and is stopping the event. I try and find the computer, but the only computer my comp sees is itself. Can anyone help? Thanks
 
How do you do that in win2k? I thought it did it automatically. What ips should each computer have? I did this in win98...but that was a while ago and i forgot. Thanks
 
You can try removing the Ethernet drivers ...reboot and Win2k should configure it correctly.

I think I know your problem, I had this exact same thing happen when I setup my NAT Proxy on my 2K box... When you put your cards into different slots the PCI IRQ steering has assigned 2 devices (obviously you NIC is one of them) the same IRQ, which most times doesn't cause a problem, but with NIC's this can cause it to appear to be working, but if you put a data meter on it you'll see that no data is being sent out. Basically you need to either put the cards back where they were, or find out which card is using the same IRQ as your NIC and then move the NIC 1-2 slots away if possible.

Remove all NIC and network references in device manager; then shut down and remove the NIC from the computer; reboot, and make sure all NIC references are gone; then shut down, put back the NIC (in PCI slot 2 or 3), reboot, reinstall the NIC and make sure it's not sharing an IRQ, then reconfigure the network.
 
I think you also need to force another Master Browser election. I can't quite remember how to do it right now, but I'm sure you can find out in the OS forums or on the net.
