I stayed up last night doing some quick finishing of a site renovation I've been working on for months. There's a few more pages I would like to add but the main content is there and ready for posting. I've asked for comments on this renovation before, but always when I first was laying it out - now everything is set and just needs the final ATOT seal of approval.

Here is the old site:

Hawg Buster Bait Company

Here is the one that needs reviewed! Brand new!

The NEW Hawg Buster Bait Company

I think the new layout is less confusing... site loads faster... easy to modify because it utilizes CSS... well you can judge for yourself and let me know what you think.

EDIT: I made changes last night, bumped my thread that netscape was working a litter better with the site, just now realized I never gave the link! Stupid me! Here it is:

The NEW Hawg Buster Bait Company - Revision

EDIT2: By popular demand, I've made the site expandable. The main content is no longer fixed width. Also figured out how to get empty cells to show up in Netscape. One one problem left.

The NEW Hawg Buster Bait Company - Revision 2 - now works with NS!

:D

Get rid of that scrolling box on the first page and the rollover to change the text. There is not enough text to require a box like that and it is not obvious that you should mousover the text to change the content in that box.

Otherwise, much better than the first.

I have a 21 inch screen and the right half of my screen is just black!
It also has one of those "page sliders" on the right side of every page but it isn't needed on each one.
I would make the information box (where you talk about the lure) bigger if possible, If not reduce the text so that slider is not necessary. If you must keep the slider made it different color as it is kind of overpowered by the yellow on the top and side.

I could of used some of those lures last week in Vermont! The ones I used were worthless!!!

The textbox describes what to do to change the text after giving a welcome message. I discovered though that if the page loads and your cursor is already touching one of three images, it loads that value instantly and you never see the welcome message.

Originally the script was using a button instead of a text box, what I wanted to do is have the text show up transparently without the border or scrollbar. Wasn't working, decided to give the textbox a try. Any other ideas? The front page was swamped with normal text before... but it was too busy... wanted something the visitor could focus on and interact with. A few people commented that the images "Catch Bigger bass", etc. were *eye-catching* so i stuck with it.

for some reason scrolling text box took a long time to load ;)

Really? It's very trim code, hardly any payload - what browser/CPU are you using?

Feel free to go to the store and buy some! You won't be dissapointed, these things are revolutionary.

This cracked me up.

I'm not familiar with the species of fish that ask questions prior to "engulfing" their pseudo-prey :)

That's going to have to be in my next renovation. This time CSS... hopefully next time ASP or PHP.

Yea, well... I can't defend that one since I copied that from one of their original publications. :D

I'm guessing that "no questions asked" refers to the fisherman - but now that you've pointed that out I don't know what to think of it. I suppose they made that to sound catchy.

I thought I had fixed this but I guess not. Netscape is turning my website into soup. What on earth could I be doing wrong? Does Netscape NOT fully support CSS?

Help! I never had this problem with my old site. 99% visitors to hawgbuster have always had IE but I'm sure there's going to be a few very important Netscape users we don't want to deter.

I'm running 1024x768, and a few inches on the right is just black......its sort of annoying. Is there a way to center it depending on the person's screen resolution?

Solution: learn to hand code HTML, or if you are sure you must use WYSIWYG editors, try DreamWeaver.

For some reason the fade out on the top yellow border isn't showing up in your browser. That helps transition to the black without just cutting off. People have said they don't like the black before... I might have to change it to white or another subtle shade. The reason for the black is to stand-out the ads on the right, eventually the store specials are going to be listed there. I'm using fixed width for the sake of consistency.

And you expected otherwise after using frontpage?

I've been successful with it before.

It has to be the CSS. It's the only thing different from my other sites. But the CSS I'm using is standard.

I know how to hand-code HTML - but that seems like a waste of time to me.:p I don't create applications with machine code if I have a compiler to do it for me.

BUT I must look into DreamWeaver. I hear good things about it.
