Help with Vista 64bit

😕Story is I have vista 32 bit installed on my machine and everything works fine. Now I'm ready to make the move to 64bit but the darn thing will not install. Same config as the 1st install. I've over and underclocked everything, removed everything but the essentials but nothing works. Tried safe mode and it stops at disk.sys everytime. Borrowed a friends pata drive and it started. I bought sata drives and would like to use them so was wondering if anyone had some insight on the situation.

That is strange.

try this work around:

1. Install Vista 64 on your friends PATA drive.
2. Install your SATA drive
3. Use Acronis True Image (30 day evaluation) to clone the PATA to your SATA drive.
4. Power down your computer.
5. Remove PATA drive
6. Start up your computer.

Hopefully this will work.

Thanks for the advice, but through a little trial and error I found out that vista doesn't like being installed over itself. Even though I installed vista over XP with no problems. Unplugged my primary boot drive and it attempted to install on my other drive. Guess I can pick up an empty drive tomorrow.

before you start the install there is option in lower right hand side for advanced settings or something named like that, click it and it will give you options to format the drive therefore wiping out the old install of vista

Nope. 1 Boot from dvd. 2 Gets to a bar that says windows in loading files. 3 Gets to the screen with the green loading bar at the bottom. 4 After that it goes black and freezes. No options or anything. Just a dark screen and a frozen PC.

I've had this issue with XP when trying to install on a drive where Linux was installed and the MBR had GRUB or LILO installed to it.

To fix it I installed an older version of windows (I forget if I used 98 or 2000) and then installed XP on top of that.
