Help with video Card/TV Compatibility

Hello. I am using a new Vizio 26" LED LCD TV as a monitor for my computer.

My video card is an NVidia Geforce 8800GT and I am connected to the TV via the TV'S RGB input.

My games always freeze and crash within a few minutes due to a display driver error.

Shall I invest in a new video card/computer with an HDMI-out on the video card to correct this and make things run smoothly? The video card is a bit ancient.
