*feel free to yell at me if something like this is already posted, but please tell me where or just link it
background-
ok then, im taking a class at school, and i need to be able to run solid works (a 3d modeling software to design parts....n' stuff for engineers). on the main site for solid works, all of the required/recommended video cards are either ati or nvidia. since i will be doing work at school and at home i need a laptop, and mine is 4 years old and not going to cut it, ive already determined that. i also would like to play fallout 3/fallout new vegas which wont run on my current laptop.
heres what im really asking-
the deciding factor of the new laptop is the video card, i cant upgrade my old one or i would just drop money on that. does the name brand of the card matter when it comes to the program actually running? or should i be looking at the cards memory? i couldnt run fallout on my laptop supposedly because my graphics card was not supported, but the guy at gamestop told me that so...yea, i would think that i could still run it, but it would be slow because of the cards memory (i know that your processor and ram have an effect too but mine almost met the recomended listed on the box).
random ranting-
on all software i see its recommended that you have a name brand card, im wondering if thats just advertising though. the laptop i have (hp dv6700, the model without a name brand graphics card (i have the mobile intel 956 with 358 mb)) runs the game "the elder scrolls oblivion" just fine at high graphics settings with a few tweaks (cuz i dont really care if i can see the grass blowing in the wind if i can jack up my frame rate) and that game is fairly taxing.
